You know regular garlic bread. Cute. But what if garlic bread had a glow up and showed up wearing a cheesy cape? That is Cheesy Garlic Bread in all its glory, golden edges, buttery layers, and a pull apart centre that makes dinner feel instantly more exciting.

This garlic bread recipe does not just sit politely next to your pasta. It steals the spotlight, disappears first, and somehow has people hovering around the tray pretending they are “just having one more piece”.

There\'s regular garlic bread, and then there\'s THIS Cheesy Garlic Bread! Soft on the inside, crispy on the edges, the perfect cheese/butter/garlic ratio.

What Makes This Cheesy Garlic Bread Work

There is a reason this one gets made again and again. This cheesy bread nails the balance between texture, flavour, and ease, without relying on fancy steps or overcomplicated ingredients.

  • Crispy meets soft in all the right ways, with toasted edges and a fluffy centre that stays tender instead of drying out
  • Garlic flavour that actually tastes fresh, not bitter or overpowering, thanks to the butter based spread
  • A smart cheese combo, mozzarella for stretch and parmesan for that salty bite that keeps you going back
  • Ridiculously easy, which makes this an ideal easy cheesy garlic bread for weeknights or last minute guests

This Cheesy Garlic Bread recipe uses simple, clean ingredients to deliver that perfect slushy texture and zesty flavor. It’s everything you love about a margarita—just colder, fresher, and more fun

  • French Bread: A sturdy loaf like French or Italian bread is perfect. It stays soft inside while getting beautifully crisp on the edges.
  • Unsalted Butter: Softened butter melts into the bread, bringing rich flavor and helping the garlic and herbs stick.
  • Garlic: Fresh chopped garlic gives this bread its bold, classic punch. Minced or finely chopped both work great here.
  • Mozzarella and Parmesan: The dream team of cheeses. Mozzarella adds that gooey melt, while parmesan brings sharp, salty flavor and a golden finish.

Note: Please see recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients with measurements.

Add Ins and Substitutions That Actually Make Sense

These options give you variety without repeating ingredients already in the recipe.

  • Chilli flakes if you like a gentle heat that cuts through the richness
  • Smoked cheese, such as provolone or gouda, for a deeper savoury flavour
  • Caramelised onions for sweetness that balances the garlic
  • Sun dried tomatoes to add tang and colour
  • Everything bagel seasoning sprinkled lightly over the top before baking for texture

How To Make This Cheesy Garlic Bread

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Place the bread halves cut-side up on the sheet.
  1. Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, garlic, fresh parsley, and salt until well combined.
  1. Assemble the Bread: Spread the butter over both halves, making sure to go right to the edges. Top with mozzarella and parmesan, then sprinkle with parsley.
  1. Bake and Broil: Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling. Broil for 2 minutes more to crisp up the top. Slice and serve warm.

This cheesy garlic bread makes the perfect sidekick to all your favorite comfort food meals. Pair it with a cozy bowl of soup like Creamy Tuscan Chicken Soup or a rich pasta dish like Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken for the ultimate dinner.

Pro Tips for Next Level Cheesy Garlic Bread

  • Let the garlic butter sit at room temperature for a few minutes before spreading so the flavour develops fully.
  • Always shred cheese yourself if possible. Pre shredded cheese does not melt as smoothly.
  • Spread butter all the way to the edges so you do not end up with dry corners.
  • Grill at the end, but keep a close eye on it. Cheese can go from golden to burnt very quickly.
  • Rest the bread for a minute before slicing so the cheese sets slightly and stays put.

Recipe FAQ’s

Can I Make This Garlic Bread Without Cheese?

Absolutely. Skip the cheese and just use the garlic butter for a classic garlic bread recipe. Still delicious, just a little less indulgent.

Can I Use Pre-Shredded Cheese?

You can, but freshly shredded cheese melts better and gives you a creamier, more gooey finish. Totally worth the extra couple of minutes.

What If I Don’t Have Fresh Garlic?

Minced garlic in a jar works in a pinch. You can also use garlic powder — about 1 to 1 ½ teaspoons — just adjust to taste.
