Salad Dressing
As usual, I always try to create salad recipes that you only need ONE dressing / marinade. A salad that uses one thing for two uses. This comes from years of making salads that require completely different marinades for your meat of choice, then drowning it in a completely different tasting dressing, only confusing my brain and taste buds even more. Why do that when you can create one delicious marinade and use it as a dressing? That kinds makes more sense.
How To Make Salmon Salad
This recipe is so simple, we can break it down in four easy steps:
- Make dressing/marinade
- Coat salmon in said dressing/marinade
- Sear salmon
- Mix all salad veggies together and top with salmon
What Goes In Salmon Salad
We used typical Mediterranean ingredients to make up the bulk of this salad:
- Sliced cucumbers
- Feta cheese — you could also use Goats cheese
- Kalamata olives — or nay olives your prefer
- Tomatoes
You can also add in sliced marinated artichokes, eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, or any other ingredients you have on hand!
The creamy avocado slices bring all of those ingredients together to create perfect harmony with the seared and crisp salmon pieces.

I have tuna fillets on hand. Can I sub those for the salmon or would that really throw off the taste?
Tom Mozgala says
Hi Stephanie,
You can certainly substitute tuna fillets for salmon in the Avocado Salmon Salad, but there are a few things to consider regarding flavor and preparation:
Flavor Profile: Tuna has a different flavor than salmon. It’s generally more assertive and can be meatier. While it won’t ruin the dish, the taste will change. If you enjoy tuna, this might even be a pleasant variation.
Cooking Method: Tuna cooks differently than salmon. If you’re using fresh tuna, consider searing it quickly for medium-rare to preserve its tenderness. Overcooking can lead to a dry texture.
Marinade Absorption: Tuna may absorb the marinade differently. Allow it to marinate for a shorter time or adjust the marinade amount, since tuna can be more potent in flavor.
Cooking Time: Tuna fillets typically require less cooking time than salmon. Keep an eye on them to avoid overcooking.
Overall, substituting tuna for salmon will alter the dish but can still yield a delicious result. Enjoy your cooking!

This is definitely a recipe that will live in my house as a meal rotation! Other than adding a can of chickpeas, I thought the recipe had amazing flavor. Sometimes I like to add more seasonings, but it didn’t need it!! It’s perfect for a dinner that is filling but feels light and has a bright fresh flavor!

This was WONDERFUL!! I used a bit of Dijon to help emulsify the dressing, and I tossed some orzo pasta in the salad. This is a keeper!

Fab salad dressing! How long would you suggest to marinate salmon? I did about 10 min (maybe needed a bit longer?) then put in air fryer. Was very good! Thank you!
