Crispy Honey Orange Glazed Salmon fillets are pan-fried in the most beautiful honey-orange-garlic sauce, with a splash of soy for added flavour!

Where do I start with these Honey Orange Glazed Salmon fillets? I think I just said it all! I don’t know which was the best part: the juicy salmon with crisp and charred edges; or the flavour of this sauce. Who would’ve thought salmon and honey with orange could go together so incredibly well?

HONEY ORANGE GLAZED SALMON

How did this one come about? One of my readers wrote in and asked about subbing out lemon juice for orange juice in this Honey Garlic Butter Salmon recipe, and what flavours would work well. IMMEDIATELY my brain went into CRISPY over drive. No foil or baking. Just good old fashioned searing in a skillet, with charred edges and a soft and juicy centre.

HOW TO PAN SEAR SALMON

The biggest tip I can give you is to make sure your pan or skillet is hot over medium-high heat before adding your salmon.

  • Use a combination of butter and oil to get those buttery flavours happening without burning.
  • Sear salmon skin-side up for 3-4 minutes. Flip and sear for 2 minutes, until nice and crispy.

MAKE THE SAUCE FOR SALMON

  • Move salmon to the side of the skillet and add fresh squeezed orange juice into the pan.
  • Let reduce (takes about 1 minute), then add fresh garlic and cook until fragrant, (only 30 seconds).
  • Pour in honey and low-sodium soy sauce, then bring to a simmer until reduced to a nice honey-like syrup (this takes about another 30 seconds to 1 minute).
  • Use tongs to carefully move salmon around in the sauce to evenly coat and baste salmon fillets in the syrup.
  • Continue cooking until done to your liking!

OPTIONAL

To get those charred and crispy edges, broil (or grill) salmon in the last 2 minutes of cooking if you’re using an oven-safe pan or skillet. Be sure to preheat your broiler while the salmon is cooking on the stove.

This is it! The salmon recipe of our dreams. Forget honey orange chicken when salmon takes over! And as per usual, drizzle those fillets in those saucy pan juices.

SIDES WITH SALMON

  • Fried Rice
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Asparagus
  • Roasted Potatoes
  • Side Salad
  • Roasted Broccoli and Green Beans
  • Smashed Potatoes

ENJOY!

Prep: 10 mins
Cook: 10 mins
Total: 20 mins
Serves: 4 people

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons butter,
  • 4 (6-ounce) skinless salmon fillets, (170 grams each)
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice, (about 1/2 an orange)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed or minced
  • salt and cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 an orange, sliced to serve

Instructions

  • Heat butter (or oil) in a pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Sear salmon skin-side up for 3-4 minutes. Flip and sear for 2 minutes.
  • Pour in the orange juice and allow to reduce to half the quantity (it takes about 1 minute to reduce down if your pan is hot enough). Add the garlic and cook until fragrant (30 seconds). Move the salmon to the sides of the pan and add in the honey and soy sauce, stirring well to combine all of the flavours together.
  • Bring to a simmer until reduced to a nice syrup (this takes about another 30 seconds to 1 minute), and move the salmon around in the sauce to evenly coat. Remove from heat once the salmon is cooked to your liking.
  • Season with salt and pepper to your tastes. Drizzle with the sauce to serve. Best served over rice, noodles, steamed vegetables or with a salad.

Notes

OPTIONAL
To get those charred and crispy edges, broil (or grill) salmon in the last 2 minutes of cooking if you're using an oven-safe pan or skillet. Be sure to preheat your broiler while the salmon is cooking on the stove.

Excellent recipe! Fast and simple, but with fabulous flavor. Works very well with salmon or tuna fillet. I used mandarins and a little orange juice for more pungent flavor. Served with jasmine rice and pineapple slices for a Polynesian style meal. My entire family loved it. Thanks so much.

This recipe is amazing. I’m not too fond salmon and really only like it with pesto. Not anymore. I’ll buy salmon just so I can make this recipe. My daughter doesn’t like salmon, so I’m going to make it with boneless chicken thighs. I think it will be just as delicious. This was an easy recipe to just ballpark.

Made this the other night and it was fantastic! Only change I made was I added some fresh ground ginger. I broiled my salmon with some of the glaze on it and reserved some to spoon over just before serving. So easy and flavorful! I cannot stress how good this is and I will definitely be making this one again!

This was amazing, just before eating it I squeezed some fresh orange juice on it. I served it with spiral zucchini, mushrooms, and red peppers tossed in the sauce. Thank ;you! Wanted to post a picture but I don’t see anyplace to do it.

Hi! Just a quick question about broiling the salmon. Do you broil for two minutes after you finish making the sauce or after you flip to salmon (and if so, do you return it to the stove top to finish making the sauce)? Hope this makes sense! Thank you. Planning to make it tonight.

I get good results using an iron pan. When I make sauce for chinese food I use the iron pan because it gets really hot and the sauce cooks down quicker…

I do not know how you do it. I CANNOT cook, but your recipes always turn out so well and they are so delicious!! I mucked this one up a bit…my sauce ended up being too sticky. It was still VERY tasty, but different consistency and ended up coating the salmon, rather than being a sauce. Does this mean I cooked it too long, or the heat was too high…???

      Hey, Kerri-Lynn Hickman,
Try it again. If the sauce gets too sticky just add a tiny bit more orange juice to it. That will lighten it up.

I tried this, and it was perfect!

A million thank yous for this recipe! My friend and I wanted to learn to cook salmon and your recipe with the reviews looked like a great one to start with, so we chose an afternoon, went to Costco to get good quality salmon and started. We read the recipe carefully and we were both nervous to see how it would turn out…at the first flip of the salmon we knew we had a winner! Then when we tasted it, it was as delicious as we hoped it would be. Thanks for making such a fool proof recipes for someone who had never cooked salmon before. I can’t remember the last recipe I made that felt like I cooked something I would order from a high-end restaurant!

In the instructions it says to add garlic at two different times, once before adding honey and again when honey and soy are added. Should we half the garlic and do both, or is the a preferable time?

I wanted something quick and simple with what I’d already got in. I didn’t have sugar snap peas so I used broccoli. This recipe is delicious, I never knew broccoli could taste so good….I’m addicted. I do prefer more time in the oven for the veg adding the salmon for the last ten minutes or so.
