A creamy bowl of oatmeal made from hot chocolate. Oh, but not just any hot chocolate: Nutella Hot Chocolate. Yep. I did. This Nutella Oatmeal takes your usual breakfast oats and turns them into something rich, chocolatey, and ridiculously comforting. Think cozy mornings, melty spoonfuls, and that familiar hazelnut flavor that makes everything better.

If you’ve ever wondered how to make Nutella oatmeal that’s both simple and satisfying, this recipe is the answer. It’s the kind of easy Nutella oatmeal that comes together in minutes yet tastes like dessert disguised as breakfast.

What Makes This Recipe So Good

This Nutella Oatmeal is what happens when comfort food meets a chocolate lover’s dream. The oats soak up warm milk and creamy Nutella, turning into a thick, silky breakfast that tastes like a hug in a bowl. It’s rich but not heavy, perfectly balanced between sweet and nutty, and just the thing for slow mornings or chilly days.

Unlike a basic oatmeal, this Nutella oatmeal recipe builds flavor from the inside out. The Nutella melts right into the oats, creating a deep chocolate base instead of a quick drizzle on top. It’s simple to make, needs just a handful of ingredients, and feels indulgent without taking more than ten minutes. Honestly, once you try it, regular oatmeal will never be the same again.

Just a few simple ingredients turn this Nutella Oatmeal into a creamy, chocolatey breakfast that feels like dessert in a bowl.

  • Nutella: The star of the show. This chocolate hazelnut spread melts right into the oats, giving every bite that smooth, indulgent flavor. You can also swap it with a healthier hazelnut cacao spread if you prefer.
  • Cocoa Powder: Deepens the chocolate flavor so it tastes more like a cozy mug of hot cocoa than plain oatmeal. Use unsweetened cocoa powder for the best balance of sweetness.
  • Rolled Oats: These create the perfect creamy texture without turning mushy. Quick oats work too if you’re short on time.
  • Milk: Low-fat, skim, or almond milk all work beautifully here, creating that silky base that makes this Nutella Oatmeal taste like dessert for breakfast.

Note: Please see recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients with measurements.

How To Make Nutella Hot Chocolate

In a saucepan, add milk, Nutella, cocoa powder, sweetener, and oats.
  1. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, add milk, Nutella, cocoa powder, sweetener, and oats. Stir together over medium heat until mixture starts to warm and steam.
Keep stirring as it heats up to prevent sticking.
  1. Bring to a Gentle Simmer: Keep stirring as it heats up to prevent sticking. Let it simmer gently, allowing the oats to soak up all that chocolatey goodness.
Stir in a little extra milk if the consistency feels too thick.
  1. Adjust the Consistency: Once the oats have absorbed most of the milk and turned creamy, remove from heat. If it feels too thick, stir in a little extra milk until it’s just the way you like it.
Spoon into bowls and top with your favorites: crushed hazelnuts, chocolate chips, or an extra drizzle of Nutella.
  1. Add the Finishing Touches: Spoon into bowls and top with your favorites: crushed hazelnuts, chocolate chips, or an extra drizzle of Nutella for that perfect, cozy finish.

Surprisingly, Nutella Oatmeal goes well with more than just coffee. Try it with Egg Muffins for a hearty, protein-packed side that balances the sweetness of the oats. For a fun twist, enjoy it with Banoffee French Toast on slow weekends when you want full-on dessert vibes at breakfast. Or, if you’re keeping things light, pair it with Cappuccino French Toast with Coffee Cream for that café-style indulgence right at home.

Tips For Making Nutella Oatmeal

  • I like using rolled oats because they turn out creamy but still have a bit of chew. Quick oats work too when I’m in a rush.
  • Warm the milk before adding Nutella so it melts in smoothly and gives the oats that silky texture.
  • Taste as you go. Nutella is already sweet, so add sugar or sweetener little by little until it’s perfect for you.
  • A tiny pinch of salt really brings out the chocolate and hazelnut flavor, so don’t skip it.
  • If the oatmeal thickens too much while cooling, just stir in a splash of milk to bring it back to that creamy, dreamy consistency.

Recipe FAQ’s

Can I Use Water Instead Of Milk?

You can, but milk gives the oatmeal a richer and creamier texture. If you’re avoiding dairy, almond milk or oat milk work beautifully too.

Can I Make This Oatmeal Healthier?

Absolutely. Use a lighter hazelnut spread or a natural cacao version, skip the added sugar, and choose unsweetened almond milk for a lower-calorie bowl.

Can I Use Instant Oats Instead Of Rolled Oats?

Yes, just reduce the cooking time by a couple of minutes. The texture will be a little softer but still just as delicious.
