BAKLAVA FRENCH TOAST.
WHATTTT? The typical Sticky, sweet and nutty Baklava flavours packed into a French Toast!
After making the incredibly decadent Baklava Cheesecake only weeks ago, I had recreate it again. But I didn’t have time to make the cheesecake, and I was starving. This was a quick-fix. A super quick-fix.
My love for French Toast is for the greater good of man-kind.
Ingredients
Toasts:
- 2 slices of bread of choice
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnnamon
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon natural sweetener or sugar of choice
- a pinch of salt
Baklava Topping:
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoons hot water
- 1 teaspoon natural sweetener or sugar of choice
- 1 tablespoon (extra) orange juice
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 shelled pistachios, crushed
- 2 walnuts, crushed
- (Optional: Extra cinnamon)
Instructions
Toasts:
- Whisk the egg, milk, orange juice, cinnamon, vanilla extract and salt in a bowl.
- Dip bread (one at a time) into egg wash. Cook both toasts on a nonstick pan sprayed with cooking oil spray until browned on both sides. Remove from pan.
Syrup:
- In the same pan, add the honey, water, sweetener/sugar, orange juice and cinnamon until it thickens like a syrup (about 1 minute).
- Remove from heat and drizzle over French toast.
- Sprinkle the pistachios and walnuts over the toasts, and optional cinnamon.
